Wigs & Hand-Washing: Hosting a COVID-Safe Community Event

COVID-19 restrictions have forced many events to cancel or reschedule while others have gotten creative. Our friends at Wigs & Wishes downsized from their usual extravagant gala, offering a socially-distant, community event before this year's smaller ceremony.Event Photos: DanCPhotography
Wigs & Wishes
Wigs & Wishes by Martino Cartier is dedicated to providing wigs to women with breast cancer at no cost, donating over 100,000 wigs since 2012. The charity takes its work a step further by granting wishes to children with cancer, surprising a select few each year at their event.
To limit the number of people at the gala, only 250 tickets were sold. The charity decided to then extend it's hours into the daytime as a free community event. During the day, virtual hosts streamed the community event live on

Basket Raffle
Event goers bought raffle tickets to test their luck on creative baskets, while raising money for a good cause. Some fun basket ideas included hair care products, household cleaning supplies and original art.
Live Music
This community knew how to party with a dance music DJ, Frank Sinatra sing-alongs and dueling piano players. There was no shortage of Paula Abdul song requests!
CDC Recommendations
The
avoiding large gatherings where individuals can’t maintain a 6-foot distance. To enforce this, we used 6-foot stickers at the entrance to the booth with a friendly reminder of the guideline. As they entered, guests at both the indoor and outdoor events were temperature checked, each wearing a recommended mask. Once escorted inside, each family sat in every other pew with hand sanitizer stations across the church. To avoid spreading COVID, large events are encouraged to postpone or move to a virtual platform. This means that holiday celebrations will look a little different this year.
